Indiana State Police say a commercial vehicle inspection in the Evansville area uncovered critical trailer safety violations and a young child who was not properly secured.
According to an Oct. 29 statement from the State Police Evansville District, Trooper Angermeier conducted the inspection and found the trailer violations. During the inspection, the trooper also spotted a two-year-old child sitting in the passenger seat of the commercial vehicle wearing only a lap safety belt.
Police said the child was not properly secured in an appropriate child safety seat. The driver was cited and the truck was placed out of service.
The vehicle was parked in a safe location until the necessary repairs were completed and a compliant child safety seat was obtained. State police said safety must come first whether someone is driving a passenger vehicle or a commercial truck, especially when children are involved.
