Fort Wayne is one of 35 cities chosen to host the Mark Cuban AI Bootcamp, a free program giving high school students hands-on training in artificial intelligence at Indiana Tech.
About 50 students took part in the first session on Saturday, hosted locally by the AI in Fort Wayne Community. They covered how machine learning models work and how they are trained, and looked at uses for AI in fields from art and education to healthcare.
Freshman Sophia Russell said she wants to understand the technology behind tools she uses every day. Senior Sarah Khadka said she hopes to apply what she learns toward a future career, pointing to healthcare and diagnostics.
Angie Carel, founder of AI in Fort Wayne, said early exposure will help students have smarter conversations in college and job interviews and move forward faster with peers at work.
Two sessions remain, on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 14, at Indiana Tech.
