A 16-year-old driver was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Adams County on Saturday night.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office was dispatched at about 10:40 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 100 N and County Road 500 W. A preliminary investigation cited by WPTA says Canen S. Keys, 32, of Decatur, was driving westbound on CR 100 N, while Gabriel S. Steiner, 16, of Berne, was driving southbound on CR 500 W.

Investigators say Keys ran a stop sign while speeding and collided with Steiner at the intersection. Steiner was airlifted from the scene, and Keys was taken by Adams County EMS to a Fort Wayne-area hospital.

The sheriff's office said speed is believed to be a factor. Indiana State Police, the Preble and Monroe fire departments, Adams County EMS and Lutheran Air assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and the sheriff's office said criminal charges may be filed after the investigation is complete. Any charges would be allegations.
