Michigan City Area Schools Superintendent Dr. Wendel McCollum says the district is requesting a recanvassing of votes after unofficial results indicated the school operating referendum fell short on Tuesday.
In a statement released Wednesday, McCollum said the district had received reports of issues at several polling locations, including ballot concerns. Given the close results and those reports, he said the district wants to ensure every vote is accurately counted.
McCollum said the district's commitment to its students, staff and community remains unchanged regardless of the outcome, and he thanked volunteers, local businesses and community members who gave time and resources during the referendum process.
