Indianapolis International Airport hosted its third annual naturalization ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 4, welcoming 82 people as new U.S. citizens.

The candidates came from 33 different countries and took the Oath of Citizenship at about 10 a.m. in the airport's Civic Plaza, surrounded by family and friends along with airport, city, state and federal officials and community representatives.

After the oath and the Pledge of Allegiance, the oldest new citizen, Peter Ryan, was presented with an American flag from The International Center. Ryan immigrated from Australia more than 20 years ago and moved to Indianapolis after marrying his wife, Delores, in 2004.

Airport officials said the ceremony, first held in November 2024, has become one of the most meaningful days of the year at the airport, which they described as a front door to Indiana for many newcomers.

Representatives from the Marion County Clerk's Office and the Indiana League of Women Voters offered voter registration after the ceremony, and community partners including IndyGo and the Indianapolis Public Library shared resources with the new citizens.
