A Farmland man and his 17-year-old son have been formally charged in Delaware County in the Oct. 5 shooting death of a Yorktown High School football standout.
Dairus Thompson II, 40, and Dairus Thompson III, 17, are each charged with aiding, inducing or causing murder, conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice, according to court records. Those charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Christopher Wilson Jr., 17, was found shot multiple times in a vehicle in the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue in Muncie and was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilson, a senior defensive end for the Yorktown Tigers, had committed to play at West Virginia University and was set to graduate early in December.
Muncie police said in an affidavit that they believe Wilson was a victim of mistaken identity and resembled a 27-year-old Muncie man who had been feuding with people associated with the elder Thompson. Investigators cited surveillance video showing a white GMC Acadia near the scene and cell phone evidence, and a witness told police the elder Thompson indicated his son carried out the shooting.
The elder Thompson's initial hearing is set for Monday, Nov. 2. The younger Thompson was taken into custody in Detroit on Thursday with help from the Detroit Violent Gang Task Force and is awaiting extradition to Indiana.
