Valparaiso's annual leaf collection begins Monday, Nov. 2, and runs through Dec. 4, weather permitting.
City Services crews will rotate through the city's four collection zones. Residents can identify their zone through the city's link for the program.
The city asks residents to rake leaves to the curb area within the public right-of-way, not into the street. Leaves in the street can block drainage, cause flooding and contribute to property damage, and placing them there violates a city ordinance.
Leaf piles should be kept free of rocks, sticks, garbage and other debris, because crews cannot collect piles containing those items. Piles should also be kept clear of parked vehicles, mailboxes and other obstructions.
After Dec. 4, residents should place leaves in biodegradable lawn bags. Off-season pickup by brush trucks is available by appointment only.
