The Fort Wayne City Council approved the city's 2027 budget on Tuesday.

The spending plan that passed is not identical to the one city leaders first discussed. Projects including the Portland Loo and a youth sports fieldhouse were removed from the budget, and funding tied to the North River development was also among the cuts discussed in council reporting.

Mayor Sharon Tucker had called some of the cuts unnecessary last week. After Tuesday's vote, she struck a more forward-looking tone, saying she is encouraged by the progress and momentum the city is experiencing.

In her statement, Tucker said many parts of the passed budget will position Fort Wayne for current and future success, and she pointed to the city's commitment to neighborhood infrastructure, public safety, parks and community development.

She said she looks forward to making sure Fort Wayne remains a strong place to live, work and play, with quality-of-life amenities for families.
