The Warrick Humane Society has celebrated the grand opening of its new animal shelter in Newburgh, with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility on Vann Road.

Officials say the expansion adds more resources to support staff and volunteers, and will allow the shelter to care for 400 more animals each year.

Executive Director Lindsey Hagedorn said the shelter has been stretched in recent years. She said staff are happy the new building will let them save an additional 400 animals and invited the public to visit.

Officials say the building was also designed to create a more welcoming environment for visitors and families looking to adopt, as the Humane Society works to place more homeless animals in permanent homes.
