Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession in Carmel, according to court records first reported by FOX59/CBS4.

The charge was filed Monday, Oct. 19, and stems from a traffic stop on Oct. 12. A Carmel officer stopped a black 2023 Dodge Charger near Springmill Boulevard and Silver Stream Drive after finding its registration had expired and belonged to a different vehicle.

Court documents say the officer noticed an odor of marijuana while approaching the car. Richardson allegedly told the officer he had smoked in the vehicle so he would not smoke in front of his children, and that he had a small amount of marijuana with him.

Police reported finding a small mason jar holding a substance believed to be marijuana and an open bag of THC-infused gummies, both of which later tested positive for THC, according to the documents. Richardson was also cited for the expired registration.

Richardson waived his initial hearing, which had been set for Dec. 9, and online court records show a bench trial scheduled for Jan. 4, 2027. The charge is an allegation and has not been resolved in court. The Colts said they are aware of the situation and gathering information, with no further comment at the time.
