Christmas assistance applications for La Porte County residents are now open, the Salvation Army of Michigan City announced in an item published Oct. 18 by WIMS Radio. The program helps families who need help with food and toys this holiday season, and families and individuals without children may also apply for food assistance.
Residents can apply online at saangeltree.org, where the portal is open from Oct. 15 through Dec. 4, 2026. The Salvation Army's flyer says online applicants should select "no" when prompted for an invitation code.
In-person registration is also available at two locations. In La Porte, at 3240 Monroe, sessions are Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 2 to 6 p.m. In Michigan City, at 1201 S. Franklin, sessions are Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 6 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Applicants should bring a photo ID, proof of address, and proof of name and birthdate for each child ages 0 to 14, and should list all household members so the correct amount of food and other items is provided, according to the flyer.
Applications will be accepted through Dec. 4, 2026, the announcement said.
