About 200 Hoosiers took part in a No Kings event at the Indiana Governor's Residence in Indianapolis on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to IndyStar's live coverage.
Participants lined both sides of Meridian Street between 46th and 49th streets in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood, holding signs and chanting before marching around the block. Speakers included state Sen. Andrea Hunley and Karla Lopez Owens.
IndyStar described the event as low key, with little police presence or conflict, and said most participants stayed on the sidewalk and did not block roads.
Organizer Macy Lennartz told the newspaper organizers chose the governor's residence over downtown locations used for earlier events in order to apply pressure at the residence itself. The affiliated national organization described the day as a nonpartisan voter-participation effort ahead of the Nov. 3 election, and other events were scheduled the same day in central Indiana communities including Zionsville, Whitestown, Brownsburg, Plainfield, Lebanon and Mooresville, and in cities across Indiana including Gary and Fort Wayne.
